Garissa: Police officer killed, 3 injured in suspected al-Shabaab attack

A police officer was on Friday morning killed and three others injured after suspected al-shabaab gunmen attacked a police station in Garissa.

The officers who were injured during the attack are receiving treatment in Garissa.

Nick Ndalama, the North Eastern Regional Coordinator confirmed the incident that also saw property of unknown value go up in flames.

Witnesses say the attack was preceded by loud explosions followed by heavy gunfire at the Yumbis Rural Border Patrol Unit police camp.

The al-Shabaab militants are also said to have roughed up several people accusing them of leaking intel to police.

Officers who responded to the attack cheated death after an explosive planted on the road went off prematurely.
