North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh has warned Garissa residents against harboring refugees, who have moved out of camps, to avoid the ongoing repatriation process by the government.
Speaking when he closed a one day capacity building initiative, on citizen participation in security for clerics and members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative, Saleh said that the government was aware that some refugees are sneaking out of the Dadaab refugee camp to evade the screening exercise, ahead of repatriation and closure of the camps in collaboration with United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
“The government has been generous to host Somali refugees following conflicts in their country for over 25 years now, however it is high time they go back and rebuild their country.” said Saleh.
“Ensure you get full details of your tenants including National ID numbers, their mobile numbers, passport photographs among other capture the necessary details of their tenants.” Added Saleh
The regional coordinator warned that the government will prosecute anyone found to be harboring the Somali refugees.
