Garissa Residents Warned Of FGM Malpractice

Garissa County Commissioner Harun Khator said action will be taken against parents carrying out the vice to their under age daughters.

He ordered chiefs and their assistants to arrest such parents and guardians.

Khator said that the government was aware of the massive defilement of young girls in the villages and that this had led to numerous deaths due to the malpractice.

He further warned that those who go against the law will be punished.

Khator urged chiefs to use the nyumba kumi initiative to identify those secretly carrying out the illegal exercise.

He was speaking during the day of the African Child celebrated to commemorate the killing of thousands of children.
