Garissa school sues KNEC over cancellation of KCSE results for 125 students

A  school in Garissa County has sued the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and Ministry of Education over what they termed as “irrational” cancellation of the 2018 KCSE examination results for 125 candidates.

Ikhlas Integrated High School, through advocate Evans Mirieri, on Thursday moved to the Milimani Court seeking legal intervention over the said cancellation.

In the suit, the school principal Mohamed Abdi Digale, Abdirazak Omar Ibrahim and 124 other parents want the court to quash the decision on the basis that KNEC did not accord them audience.

According to court documents, the school management argues that during the examination period, there was heavy presence of all relevant government agencies and institutions hence any irregular practice by the candidates could have been noted and reported then.

“During the examinations, the school adopted various measures to ensure that there were no examination malpractices, including but not limited to assigning the candidates five different rooms which were manned by competent professional and non-partisan invigilators, supervisors, security and other monitors appointed by KNEC which made any examination malpractice impossible go on undetected,” states the school.

The parents also said the former candidates are depressed and living in anxiety, each day unsure of what life holds for them after cancellation of the results as they are now unable to make other academic moves.

The case was filed under a certificate of urgency after the school’s appeal to KNEC failed.
