Gatherings banned in Kitengela following chaos

Political rallies and other forms of gatherings have been banned in Kitengela, Kajiado County for seven days following property chaos that were witnessed in the area over the last two days.

Kajiado County Commission Harsama Kello banned the gatherings saying that this is the first step in arresting the rising temperatures.

His statement came hours after reports indicated that three persons were killed Wednesday night by unknown assailants.

However, Kello did not link the killings to the chaos but said investigations are already underway.

He also suspended boda boda operations temporarily saying that they are suspected to have been used by the killers of the three people.

On Tuesday, chaos erupted in Kitengela town following a dispute over the allocation of stalls in the market by the County Government of Kajiado.

The chaos, pitting one community against the rest, were also experienced in Isinya and Kajiado town late last month and have been linked to politics and land sales.

Kitengela OCPD Stephen Weda said police are in pursuit of the killers of the three persons and that security has been beefed up.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and our officers are pursuing those behind the killings,” he said as he urged residents to remain calm.
