Gatundu matatu operators protest high number of illegal PSVs

Transport activities in Kiambu County were paralysed Thursday after matatu operator plying the Kiganjo, Gatundu South – Nairobi route downed their tools and subsequently blocking all access roads in the area over what they termed as unfair competition from the Proboxes.

The more than 100 irked drivers and touts were protesting the high number of probox vehicles operating in the area saying that they were in business illegally as they have no PSV licenses, yellow lines and have not undergone inspection by NTSA.

The protesters accused police officers in the area of colluding with the probox owners who have been giving them bribes to allow the illegal operations.

The angry protesters want the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) to intervene and stop the said drivers, failure to which they will continue with the demonstrations.
