Gem MP: Chinese have raided Kenya

Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo has decried the high influx of the Chinese in the country, further urging the government to find a way of stabilizing the Kenyan shilling by engaging local experts.

Speaking during a burial ceremony in Ugenya Constituency on Sunday, Mr. Odhiambo lamented that the Kenyan economy is being taken over by foreigners.

“The Chinese have raided Kenya’s top market and the leadership is seated just looking. We have brilliant brains in this country that need to caucus and help the leadership of Kenya to ensure we have a stable shilling,” said the legislator.

“We need to ensure that the stock exchange of Kenya is not controlled by outsiders. Uganda and Rwanda now export much more than Kenya exports… the shilling is depreciating.”

Siaya Senator James Orengo, on his part, challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to step up the fight against impunity in the country.

“In Kenya there is too much impunity. Even in the war against corruption there are still some secret powers and I’m challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta to move a notch a little higher,” said Mr Orengo.

The Senate Minority Leader further emphasised the existence of the opposition even after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga’s handshake with the president and his subsequent appointment as envoy of the African Union.

“The opposition is still very strong, led by Raila Amollo Odinga, and the opposition is going to make sure that Kenya is a proud nation… a nation in which people find freedom and prosperity for all, and not for a few. The opposition will never die in Kenya,” he stated.
