George Natembeya: 5 killed, 3008 displaced during the Mau clashes

Five have been killed and 3008 others displaced in the ongoing Eastern Mau clashes, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya has said.

16 suspects have been arrested and are expected in court on Monday morning.

The clashes have affected 10 villages with the Government saying peace talks in the region will be held from Monday.

At the same time, the government had asked those who had fled their homes to return, as normalcy has been restored.

The latest comes just a day after Nakuru county imposed a 5-day curfew starting at 6pm to 7am.

During this period, Governor Kinyanjui, no one would be allowed to carry any weapons including bows, arrows and machetes.

“All residents are advised to abide by the laws of the country. Anybody found in breach will face prosecution,” he said.

Ethnic clashes in the region mainly between the Kipsigis and Ogiek communities happen from time to time, precipitated by incidents such as cattle rustling.
