Get ready for KCSE exam results before Christmas, Magoha says
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha addressing journalists on August 21, 2019.

Results for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam will be released before December 25.

Education CS George Magoha made the announcement during an event where he delivered a Ksh. 100million cheque from the President for a school to be build in honor of marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.

”So far, this year’s results have come out well and we expect better results than last year’s,” he said at Kapsisywa Secondary School on Saturday.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) began the new trend of releasing exam results before Christmas when Fred Matiang’i was Education CS.

This was a departure from earlier tradition where results would take up to four months to be released.

At the time, Prof. Magoha was the boss at KNEC.

He took over the mantle from Dr. Matiang’i in March this year as his predecessor was moved to the Interior docket but still takes the lead in overseeing national exams.

Dr. Matiang’i is referred to as the ‘super CS’ after President Uhuru Kenyatta put him in charge of coordinating delivery of national priorities and flagship programs.

During this year’s KCSE exams, he suspended leave for security officers so that they could enhance safety at examination centres countrywide.

He also deployed fellow Cabinet Secretaries across the country to oversee the exercise and report back to him.

On Saturday, Education CS noted that there had been a few incidents of exam cheating but said the culprits have since been arrested and arraigned.

This year’s exams began on November 4 with close to 700,000 candidates country wide taking part.

There were several cases of candidates giving birth during the exam period and others who died after sitting for the national exam.
