Gikomba market goes up in flames, again

Gikomba traders woke up to huge losses after yet another early morning fire razed down a number of stalls in the Nairobi market.

The fire is reported to have broken out at around 2am and was still on until 7am when several response teams, led by the Red Cross, bustled to control the inferno.

No casualties have been recorded as of yet from the inferno whose cause still remains unknown.

The fire comes just five months after yet another left 16 people dead and over 70 others nursing critical injuries on June 29, 2018.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, following the June fire incident, affirmed that investigations would be launched to establish the cause of the fire.

Fire tragedies are not new to Gikomba market, they are seemingly an annual occurrence with some city leaders reading mischief from them.

The Wednesday morning breakout marks the 9th fire incident in a span of only 8 years.
