Girl, 22, killed by boyfriend for leaving him

A fourth year student at Egerton University was stabbed to death by her boyfriend on Monday morning in Nyokerio area, Njoro after she ended her relationship with him.

Cynthia Chelegat, 22, an Agriculture major at the Njoro main campus, is said to have been in her house when her boyfriend raided and allegedly stabbed her to death.

According to Chelagat’s roommate, she was preparing to leave for school when the incident occurred.

It is alleged that the man was afraid his girlfriend was about to leave him for another man. His efforts to try and convince her stay were futile.

A neighbour said they heard screams from the house and rushed to help only to find the door locked. They forced their way in and found the suspect standing next to the deceased with blood oozing from her body.

She was rushed to hospital but died on arrival.

The suspect attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself on the neck to escape the angry residents.
The two according to the locals were lovers for a period of time.

The landlady, Anne Muthoni pointed out that the deceased had told her that the man had threatened to kill her.

Njoro OCPD Charity Dorcas said the suspect who suffered minor injuries is undergoing treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.

The police boss added that investigations are underway and the suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with murder.

To boost security in and around Egerton institution, security officers will meet with the school administration to ensure students who reside outside the institution are safe.

Incidents of students being killed under mysterious circumstances in Egerton have been rampant in the past.
