Girl locks herself in neighbour’s house, attempts to kill self and children

Police in Siaya County on Sunday arrested a 19-year-old girl who is alleged to have attempted to kill herself together with two of her neighbour’s children at Nyakasumbi village in Bondo Township.

Judith Awuor Omondi is said to have doused herself with paraffin then locked herself in the neighbour’s house together with the two children; a boy aged 7 years and an 8-year-old girl.

The suspect then set the house ablaze but luckily, neighbours noticed the fire and raised an alarm.

According to area Assistant Chief Ayub Ogola, the local residents broke into the house and rescued the children.

The woman was then handed to the police over the heinous act and destroying the neighbour’s property.

The motive behind the woman’s actions could not be immediately established, however the assistant chief said they suspect she was under the influence of alcohol.

She was detained at Bondo Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
