Githeri Man, Robert Alai, Ben Githae to receive State honour

Martin Kamotho, alias Githeri man, is on the list of individuals President Uhuru Kenyatta will honour with the coveted State commendation as the country marks the 54th Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Also on the list of the recipients of the Head of State commendation (Civilian Division) is controversial blogger Robert Alai, musicians Ben Githae and Rufftone, Citizen TV’s senior reporter Jackie Maribe, State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi, Deputy Director in charge of State branding and events Thomas “Big Ted” Kwaka, State House Senior Director of Public Communication Munyori Buku and Hellen Nkaiserry, the wife of the late Cabinet minister Joseph Nkaissery.

Others include KBC journalist Victor Munyakane, Jubilee blogger Pauline Njoroge, Evangelists Lucy Ngunjiri and Teresia Wairimu, Billy Arocho and boxer Fatuma Zarika.

The president is supposed to issue the State commendations – Orders, decorations, and medals – in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.

The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H) is the highest honour in Kenya followed by the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.) then the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (M.G.H.).

They are followed by the Uhodari Medal, Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (C.B.S.), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (E.B.S.), Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (M.B.S.), the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya, the Distinguished Conduct Order, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star of Kenya and the Head of State’s Commendation (Military Division and Civilian Division).

Over 150 people believed to have made an indelible mark in the country are honoured annually with the different awards.

The awards are made by the president upon the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president’s office. Individuals are nominated for the awards by district committees, government ministries, religious organisations, non-governmental organisations, individuals and others
