Githu Muigai fails to testify in Anglo-leasing case

Outgoing Attorney General Githu Muigai and Deputy Solicitor General Muthoni Kimani failed to testify in an Anglo-leasing case after defense lawyer Paul Nyamodi applied to have the case adjourned.

According to Mr. Nyamodi, the prosecution served them with some documents on Tuesday March 13, and therefore would need more time to prepare their defense.

While granting the defense more time, Senior Magistrate Martha Mutuku said that the prosecution is in breach of the law for not supplying the documents within the stipulated time adding that prosecution cannot escape.

The court directed the prosecution to ensure that they serve the defense with all the documents which they will rely in the Anglo-leasing scam case.

In the case, former senior government officials and businessmen face charges related to the multi-billion-shilling security tenders which the prosecution claims are irregular.

Former finance Minister the late David Mwiraria, three former PSs; Joseph Magari, Dave Mwangi and David Onyonka and businessmen Deepak, Rashmi and Chemanlal Kamani have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the government of 59,688,250 Euros (Ksh.7.4 billion), through a suppliers financing agreement, for the computerisation of security, law and order systems.
