Githurai ex-cop to serve 15 years in jail for murder
Titus Ngamau Musila alias Katitu, an ex-policemen charged with murder in Githurai has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.
The court ruled that Katitu serve eight years in prison as he had already spent the first 4 in jail before being released on bond.
The ruling by Justice James Wakiaga implies that after the 8 years, the ex-policeman will be released but put on probation for 3 years.
Katitu was charged with murder of Kenneth Kimani Mwangi at Githurai 45 stage five years ago.
His lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, had pleaded with Justice Wakiaga to show leniency towards his client saying he has been a police officer for a period of 20 years and has a young family.
On February 7, this year, the Judge however ruled that the prosecution had proven the case against Katitu, beyond reasonable doubt.
Katitu had been freed on a police bond of Ksh.1 million until he was found guilty of murder and convicted in February which saw him taken back to jail.
In 2014, Katitu’s arrest sparked a two-day riot by Githurai residents and human right activists who demanded his release claiming that he was a good policeman and they felt safe with him.
