Gitonga Njogu seeks justice after daughter killed, acid poured on body

Gitonga Njogu was at the Juja Police Station on Sunday afternoon to get an update on investigations into his daughter’s brutal murder.

He revealed that the main suspect in Catherine Nyokabi’s murder — Evans Karani — was well known to the family.

The two had been in a relationship for two years.

“Amekuja nyumbani mara nyingi… Amekuja na wameenda hadi kwa nyanya yake. Tunamjua vizuri saana,” he told Citizen TV.

Njogu however says the family was unaware of the fact that Karani was married with five children.

That fact came to light two weeks ago, after which the family disapproved of the relationship.

He believes that this was the motive behind the murder of his 25-year-old daughter, who has left behind a 6-year-old child.

“Msichana wangu akaona hawezi kuolewa na yeye na akajaribu kumwacha, anaendelea kumfuata… Alimkataa ndio akamfanyia hiyo mambo,” he said.

After viewing his daughter’s body at the City Mortuary, Gitonga said brutality cannot define what his daughter Nyokabi went through on Thursday night.

“Amekatwakatwa hata vidole hakuna… Amewekewa acid hata ukiona unashangaa nini mbaya ilikuwa na huyu jamaa,” the distraught father said.

Evans Karani, who is still in custody at the Juja Police Station, is reported to have told officers that he does not regret his actions.

He apparently said that his love for nyokabi could not allow her to see someone else.

The body of the  woman was discovered at Ndarugu area in Juja, Kiambu County, 50 metres from Karani’s car.

His car got stuck in the mud when he dumped the body, forcing him to abandon it at the scene.

The suspect was later arrested at Githurai Kimbo and is to be arraigned in court on Monday, the same day that an autopsy will be conducted on Nyokabi’s body.
