Give IEBC room to conduct its mandate – Uhuru to opposition

President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the Opposition to give room to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct its mandated duties without interference.

The President said instead of trying to intimidate the IEBC, the Opposition should put its house in order and meet Jubilee at the ballot.

“You have to choose to either be a player or referee but you cannot be both,” President Kenyatta said, referring to the endless demands placed on the IEBC by Opposition leaders including the composition of electoral clerks.

The President – who had earlier conducted a voter registration mobilisation campaign in Nyandarua County – was addressing residents at Subukia, Kabazi, Bahati, Maili Kumi, Maili Tisa and Ngashura in Nakuru County.

He urged the residents to enlist as voters in large numbers so that they could participate in the August elections and vote for Jubilee, the party that stands for unity and progress.

The President particularly asked the youth to register in order to elect peace-loving leaders, under the Jubilee ticket, to entrench peace in the county and across the country.

“I call upon all those who have not registered as voters to do so in the remaining four days before the IEBC concludes the exercise,” the President said.

President Kenyatta will today, Saturday tour other parts of Nakuru County including Salgaa, Total Junction, Mau Summit, Elburgon and Njoro among others to mobilise residents to register as voters.
