Give teachers armed guards, demand Lamu residents

Lamu residents have called on the government to provide armed guards to all teachers and schools in the area in the wake of recent terror attacks.

The request comes even as pupils from Bargoni Primary School in Hindi, Lamu County come to terms with the reality that they may not seat for their KCPE exams after teachers failed to return to the school.

The school’s head teacher Mohamed Ahmed says that more than five teachers from the school have apparently refused to return to work over insecurity, a matter that is impacting negatively on the school’s position to assist and prepare their pupils for the national exam.

Ahmed added that education standards have significantly dropped in the county where most schools are understaffed and lack capacity to provide quality education as teachers and parents flee or withdraw their children from schools out of fear.

Parents from the area blamed the government for its inadequacy to protect them and appealed to the ministry of education, county government and well wishers to assist the school urgently in order to provide the much needed education to their children.

This comes just weeks after 15 Al-shabaab militants were killed after a botched assault on a military barracks in Baure.
