Give us licences, hawkers in Migori tell County Gov’t

Hawkers in Migori County are asking the county government give them hawkers’ licenses, adding that the issuance of the document will save them from constant quarrels with the county government officials over taxes.

The traders are said that they tried to persuade the county severally to issue them with hawkers’ licenses, but the efforts have been unfruitful.

National Chamber of Commerce chairperson Migori County, Samuel Rumo, said issuing licenses to hawkers will also streamline revenue collection for the county government.

Rumo went on to allege that much of the tax collected from the small traders in the county ends up in the pockets individuals.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Migori County’s Chief Officer in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Cooperative Development Donald Jaleny said they are yet to formulate a policy that can enable them issue license to hawkers.

Jaleny, however, said their needs will be addressed in due course.
