Gladys Shollei, 18 other lawyers practising illegally – LSK

Former Judiciary Registrar Gladys Boss Shollei’s woes are far from over after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) requested for recalling of her practising certificate after she allegedly issued a bouncing cheque.

LSK requested the Judiciary to recall Shollei’s and 18 other lawyers’ practising certificates for the year 2015. LSK said that the recalling of the certificates was a disciplinary measure towards Shollei and the 18 others who have been practising illegally.

However, the Judiciary will issue the certificates afresh once the members pay the requisite amount.

According to letters from the P.M. Mulwa, the registrar Magistrate Courts, the transactions by the 19 were done between January and May this year.

Others affected include; Dennis Wachira, Jonathan Omangi, Betty Angatia, Mugo Jared Bosire, Katherine Nanjala, Charles Benedict Mwongela,  Michael Muriuki, David Biketi, Timothy Ntaiya, Judy Kerubo and David Ouma.

However, some who made their payments later will not be allowed to practise for the next five months.

LSK Chief Executive Officer Apollo Mboya said that the bouncing cheques attracted a fine of Ksh 2,000 each.

Practicing lawyers pay Ksh 19,000 as renewal fee for their certificates every year.
