Goods worth millions destroyed in Kitengela Fire

Business owners in Kitengela are counting their losses after a fire razed down nearly ten shops near a market in the town.

Goods worth millions of shillings were destroyed in the morning fire as owners did not salvage anything from their shops.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire raged on for nearly three hours before a fire truck from Machakos arrived.

Traders at the market questioned why they had to wait for so long for an engine from a neighboring county instead of getting emergency assistance from their own county. They said that they have lost faith in the Kajiado County Government’s ability to act.

The disgruntled business owners have threatened to start collecting signatures to prove that they do not have faith in the county leadership citing that they pay taxes but do not see its fruits.

The destruction of property caused by the fire comes just a few days after another fire burned down a garage near electric power offices in Kitengela.

A ward representative in Kitengela, Daniel Kanchori has blamed Governor David Nkedianye for the lack of a fire engine stating that they had allocated Ksh30 million in the budget last year for procurement of fire trucks yet they have not been acquired.
