Government Faulted Over Elderlys Social Program

Speaking in Nyeri, Commissioner Simon Ndubai said that the commission is contemplating going to court to pursue the matter.

He added that there is need to have the body so as to safeguard the money meant for the elderly.

The commissioner also urged the government to improve the social program by increasing coverage and intensity of social welfare program to improve the livelihood of the elderly.

Ndubai urged the community to protect older members of the society and ensure they are free from abuse.

Purity Elderly Foundation Executive Director, Joyce Wanjiku Kairu urged the government to improve the cash transfer program as there are many challenges emanating in the program.

Wanjiku said that new strategies should be formulated to ensure that the funds reach the elderly without delay adding that there is no consistency in how the money reaches them.

She also said that the government should improve the conditions in which the elderly receive their funds instead of them travelling to Postal Corporation of Kenya to get the money.

She at the same time urged the government to start a health scheme for the elderly.
