Government title deeds genuine, Narok residents told

Residents of Narok East in Ongata Naado Ranch have been assured that title deeds issued by the government are genuine.

Speaking at Ongata Naado Primary School and later at Kipisai Primary School grounds during issuance of 2,900 title deeds, Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi dispelled fears that the deeds could be fake, assuring the residents that the government-issued deeds are genuine.

He also urged residents to involve members of their households when signing the title deeds in order to avoid land-related conflicts.

Addressing the gathering, Narok Governor Samuel Tunai urged the residents to solve cases of land disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms so as to enhance harmony in society.

National Land Commission (NLC) chair Mohammed Swazuri advised locals to involve their family members when selling lands to avoid conflicts.

He further called on the residents to report cases of land grabbing to his commission for action to be taken.

Moffat Kangi, who is the Narok County Commissioner, urged area administrators to sensitize locals on land ownership laws so as to enhance awareness.

A huge chunk of land in Narok is owned by group ranches, however there have been cases of fraud and the sale of land through dubious means thus creating conflict.

So far the Swazuri-led Commission has been received well since most ranches have been reclaimed following massive revocation of false land title deeds.

Present at the function were area MP Ken Aramat, area MCA Salankat Ole Nchoe, Chairman Ongata Naado among others.

The officials will visit Ole Sitoo and Sitagara areas next as the title deed distribution exercise continues.
