Government to set up a public university in Nyamira

The government is set to establish a public university in Nyamira County, President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised.

Speaking after meeting leaders and professionals from the county in Nyamira Town on Wednesday, the President also pledged to upgrade the newly established Ekerubo Gietai Technical Training College to a national level.

The leaders, headed by Governor John Nyangarama, had requested the elevation of the college, which the President had just commissioned, to a university and the setting up of a new university.

The President called on local investors to set up hostels near the college to accommodate students from outside Nyamira town once it is elevated to a national status.

Ekerubo Gietai TTC is one of the 130 Technical Training Colleges the Jubilee Government has promised to set up in the county to cater for students who do not make it to university.

President Kenyatta also commissioned the Nyamira Level Five Hospital upgraded at a cost of Ksh 810 million with ultramodern renal equipment, specialised equipment for cancer, intensive care equipment and state of the art theatre equipment among other improvements.

Speaking during the visit of the county, the Head of State said that Jubilee government will serve all areas of the country equally regardless of political affiliations.

He called on CORD leaders to use the right channels in their push to remove the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from office.

The President is scheduled to visit the neighbouring Kisii County where he is set to commission the Kisii Level Five Hospital, review progress of the construction of the Kenyenya Technical Training College and launch the construction of several roads.

President Kenyatta will wrap up his visit by re-launching the NYS Cohort Programme in the county.’
