Governor cuts short address as youth threaten to rough him up

Kajiado Governor, David Nkedianye, was forced to cut short his address and scamper to safety after a section of irate youth shouted him down, threatening to rough him up.

Nkedianye, who was elected on an Orange democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, was heckled and shouted by pro-Jubilee youth during a fundraiser in Mosorio Ward, Kajiado West.

The Governor had not been invited for the fundraiser that was organized by the women from the area allied to the Jubilee Party and where former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Joseph ole Lenku, was the chief guest.

The session went on without the official recognition of the Governor despite him arriving early for the function, making him uneasy towards the end, questioning the sincerity of those seeking leadership positions in the area.

Mr Lenku, before winding up the function, invited the Governor to ‘greet the people’. In his address, he questioned where Jubilee had been when the residents were looking for a party to support their dream until they found a home in ODM.

The governor’s remarks sparked a protest from the youth who shouted him down demanding that he leaves the function immediately.

They branded him a failure accusing him of uncompleted projects across the county despite contributing Ksh 50,000 to the fundraiser and addressing them in the Maa dialect.

Things started turning ugly after the youth threatened to rough him up forcing his security detail to whisk him away.
