Governor Joho extends friendly invite to President Kenyatta

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday invited President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit Mombasa saying the tour will affirm the recent handshake with NASA Leader Raila Odinga.

Joho was speaking after a closed-door meeting with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who paid him a courtesy call at his office.

The flamboyant politician has been a fierce critic of President Kenyatta and things came to a head during the president’s commissioning of the new Mtongwe ferry in March last year where he was blocked by police from attending.

Governor Joho had also attempted to hold a parallel event next to President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party campaign rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa but he was denied a permit.

Joho’s invite however comes just hours after President Uhuru and deputy William Ruto alongside opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka publicly embraced and apologised to each other.

The leaders who took to the stage during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, chose to publicly forgive each other over the 2017 election barbs.

President Uhuru Kenyatta led the way by asking the former Prime Minister to forgive him for anything he may have said or done during last year’s campaign period.

“We have campaigned against one other, we have said nasty things about one another, we hurt one another and on my behalf ndugu I ask for your forgiveness and I tender my apology,” said President Kenyatta.
