Governor Kabogo summoned by court over ethnic contempt allegations

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been summoned by a Nairobi Court to plead to ethnic contempt charges in remarks allegedly made on the 25th of November last year following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo issued the summons Friday morning requiring Kabogo to appear before the court on August 5th, 2016.

Governor Kabogo is accused of allegedly making inflammatory remarks during a rally at Thika Municipal Stadium during musician John De Mathew’s 30th-anniversary celebrations on the 25th of November last year.

Kabogo is said to have allegedly warned CORD leader Raila Odinga and Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama of dire consequences if they did not stop insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
