Governor Kinyanjui looks to hire 300 as nurses strike bites

The Nakuru County government has announced plans to recruit 300 nurses in a bid lessen the effects of the ongoing strike by nurses and clinical officers.

Speaking to the media after visiting the Naivasha sub-county hospital, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said that the county will soon be advertising for the positions of the 300 even as they continue to engage in negotiations with those on strike.

While terming the health sector as critical, the former NTSA Chairman singled out those living in rural areas as the most affected adding that his government is willing to negotiate with the striking medics to resolve the standoff.

“We have been forced to close down some facilities in rural areas due to the strike but we have put up mitigation measures in the bigger hospitals to alleviate the suffering,” said Kinyanjui.
