Governor Korane threatens to sack absentee county officials

Garissa County Governor Ali Korane has threatened to sack ward and sub-county administrators who often abscond duty.

Speaking during the official closure of a three-day capacity building training for county administrators in Garissa, Governor Korane expressed concern over a recent trend by a section of the officials who he said were spending a lot of time in hotels within the county engaging in what he termed as idle talk instead of working.

“I have realized that some of you still have political hangovers and you are yet to understand your role as a public servant. I will not hesitate to replace you if you fail to match our expectations,”  Korane said.

Korane called for an attitude change from the administrators adding that he will not hesitate to sack and replace them to ensure service delivery in the county is achieved.

The County boss also announced that a Bill on Peace Building and Integration outlining county structures, role of elders and other stakeholders will be tabled at the county assembly soon.

Korane who served as an administrator during Retired President Daniel arap Moi’s regime cautioned the administrators against engaging in politics which he said would undermine their relationship with the MCAs and even MPs.

The Governor instead urged them to cultivate a healthy relationship with other public servants serving at the wards and sub-counties in a bid to improve on the implementation of shared roles and responsibilities.

Korane pledged to support the officials saying the county will continue to offer training in order to strengthen their skills in service delivery.
