Governor Mandago, MP Sudi staring at possible hate prosecution

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen.(Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, says Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago and Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, will be prosecuted if found guilty for their remarks during recent political rallies.

The two Jubilee Party nominees made utterances that Nkaissery says threaten the well-being of a certain community in Uasin Gishu County if independent gubernatorial candidate, Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, is elected on August 8.

Their sentiments have attracted condemnation from across the country with Nakuru politicians arguing that the comments are likely to threaten the unity of Uasin Gishu residents ahead of the August polls.

Led by Nakuru gubernatorial hopeful, John Mututho, the leaders called for the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to intervene to avoid a repeat of the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

“We are concerned by recent comments made by politicians in political rallies; leaders should not spark animosity to advance their interests knowing what happened in 2007. Therefore, we call on the relevant agencies to rein in on such characters before the situation gets out of hand,” Mututho said.

Mututho said that NCIC, being a constitutional commission, should be impartial and should operate within the confines of the law.

Zipporah Kimani, who is eyeing the Nakuru Woman Representative position, termed the two leaders’ comments as ‘careless’ and called on Kenyans to shun such leaders on August.
