Mutua: Investigate everyone including DP Ruto over Kenei's murder

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to leave no stones unturned in the late Kipyegon Kenei’s murder probe.

Speaking during a function in Kangundo town, Mutua said he was supporting the work that the DCI had done so far in uncovering the twisted murder.

“I fully support the investigative work being undertaken by DCI boss George Kinoti and urge him to tell us who killed or who ordered the killing of a young man, who was someone’s son, sibling, cousin, lover and friend. Sgt Kenei deserves justice,” He said.

Mutua claimed that assassinations in Kenya were never fully resolved which has created a culture of impunity with culprits playing the system to get away with the crimes.

“Sgt Kenei’s brutal killing should be the turning point so that we end such killings,” He added.

At the same time, Mutua asked the DCI boss George Kinoti to record statements from everyone who works at the Deputy President William Ruto’s office.

The recording of the statements, he said, should start with the Deputy President and trickle down to the lower tier employees including the toilet cleaners.

Mutua who previously claimed he received threats from Ruto said the DP should also record a statement on why he threatened him.

“When Ruto goes to write a statement on who killed Kenei, he should also tell Kenyans why he threatened me he should, because that matter is pending,” Mutua said.

The governor said that going by the police analysis, the officer had been killed because he received instructions to facilitate a corrupt, high-stakes deal.

He said the international community was watching to see how Kenya will deal with the matter.

“I have met ambassadors from Europe, and they are watching, they will see whether we are a banana republic, just killing innocent people because of graft,” He said.

During the same address, Governor Mutua sent condolences to the family of the late officer who is set to be laid to rest at his rural home on Saturday.

The deceased was found dead at his house in late February.

Investigations point to a murder with the DCI saying the officer was privy to details of the Ksh.39B military equipment scam.

He was in charge on the day former sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa visited Ruto’s office accompanied by polish nationals during the elaborate scam.
