Governor Mutua provides bank details to anti-corruption

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has voluntarily provided his bank account details, record of assets and wealth for use by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other relevant bodies as part of his campaign to clean up the County Government of Machakos.

Mutua also wrote to the EACC requesting for a lifestyle audit for all Machakos Government staff to identify their unexplained wealth.

He has also asked his Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala, Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, Directors and their deputies and all senior government officers to follow his example and allow EACC to scrutinize their wealth.

“I do believe that those who have nothing to hide will have no problem declaring what they have and how they acquired it,” he said.

Already, the Governor has sent on suspension two CEC members and several county government staff in a purge on corruption that has send shivers down the spines of many employees.

“If you can’t handle the heat, move away from Machakos County. Our citizens will receive their services without thieves gobbling their money,” said Mutua.

Addressing a news conference outside his Machakos office , Mutua said he wants the message to be clear that Machakos will not allow thieves to operate in the county because that will slow down development of the county.

“It is very common in Kenya and other poor countries suffering from corruption for Government officers to suddenly amass unexplained wealth due to corruption. I am committed to weed out all corrupt officers,” he added.

Mutua also appointed long time public servant and former State House Comptroller Hyslop Ipu as the Machakos anti-corruption advisor to help root out corrupt elements and to set up transparency structures.

“Ipu understands how governments work and is committed to the fight against corruption,” said Mutua.

He said that in order to strengthen his government’s structures so as to have a system that will last for decades, he appointed former Secretary to the Public Service Board Mrs Bernadette Nzioka as his Advisor on Human Resources and Labour issues.

Mutua also appointed former Permanent Secretary Mr Sam Mbova to advice on the organization of government and mitigation factors required to ensure efficiency and effective service delivery.

Mutua challenged members of the public who have given bribes for services to be offered to supply the information for necessary action.

He said he was committed to transforming Machakos to be the epitome of transparency and accountability in Kenya.

“That is the spirit of Maendeleo Chap Chap. It is all about giving Mwananchi his or her rights and the development they deserve,” said Mutua.

He added that for Machakos and Kenya to develop, we must defeat the scourge of corruption that has denied us the realization of our dreams.
