Governor Mutua receives more defectors from Jubilee
Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, has officially received a host of Jubilee defectors from Embu County led by Senator Lenny Kivuti into his Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.
Kivuti, who is eyeing the Embu gubernatorial seat, decamped from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party together with his ear-marked running mate, Emilio Kathuri, Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi, Mbeere North Member of Parliament, Muriuki Njagagua, citing internal party wrangling and no assurance of transparent nominations.
While receiving the defectors at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, Governor Mutua disclosed that Maendeleo Chap Chap will not field a presidential candidate but will instead support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid in the August 8 polls.
Mutua hinted that he would soon meet an MP from Nyanza region who has indicated interest to run for a governorship seat on MaendeleoChap Chap ticket.
The Machakos County Governor hailed Senator Kivuti as a shrewd leader appealing to the people of Embu to elect him as their next governor, highlighting educational reforms that he (Kivuti) brought to Embu.
Kivuti, on his part, commendable Governor Mutua for accepting them into his party and promised to better his development record in Machakos County when elected Embu Governor.
Kivuti is staring at a tough race for Embu governorship from the front runnersRunyenjesMember of Parliament, Cecily Mbarire, and the incumbent Martin Wambora, who will be seeking the same on a Jubilee ticket.
Governor Mutua is set to lead a troop of Maendeleo Chap Chap leaders into a party popularization campaign in Meru County starting next week.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advisor on education affairs, Dr Kilemi Mwiria, was also presented at MCC headquarters to welcome the new entrants.
Mwiria, who is eyeing Meru County Gubernatorial seat, ditched President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party for Maendeleo Chap Chap.
