Governor Mutuas offer to clean up Tom Mboya statue shames Sonko into action

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s offer to rehabilitate Tom Mboya’s statue in the Capital’s Central Business District seems to have stirred Governor Mike Sonko into action.

A day after Mutua offered to personally repair and maintain the statues of Mboya and Dedan Kimathi until “those concerned wake up from their slumber”, Sonko dispatched a team to the site and they started work to return it to its former glory.

The team also worked on the dusty Kimathi statue.

Dr. Mutua visited the Mboya and Kimathi CBD sites on Tuesday and, shocked by their sorry state, promised to personally repair and maintain them.

“I am disgusted by the shameful state of neglect and disrepair of the statues. I am actually affected by their state because I participated actively in the policy for their construction, with Ambassador Francis Muthaura, when I served as government spokesperson,” said Dr. Mutua.

This, it seems was what was needed to stir Sonko into action and without uttering a word, sent a team with a water bowser to the two statues and started on work.

Activist Boniface Mwangi brought attention to the bad state of the Mboya statue on Monday when he tweeted; “I have news for you, there is no Superman (it’s up to us.)” – Tom Mboya. Mboya’s monument is a crying shame @MikeSonko. Can @StanChartKE repair it? Its good PR and it’s in front of their bank.”

Let’s us see just how good a job the Nairobi team does and if that will please the Machakos Governor.
