Governor Mvurya, ODM leaders in verbal altercation

Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya, and section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders led by Msambweni Member of Parliament, Suleiman Dor, and Kwale Speaker, Sammy Ruwa, were on Thursday, March 30 involved in a verbal altercation over development projects undertaken by Jubilee and ODM in Kwale County.

Mvurya accused the opposition leaders of doing nothing for the people of Kwale, remarks that did not sit well with the ODM leaders.

The Governor said that the opposition leaders failed to honour their promises to the people of Kwale when they led the Grand Coalition government and can, therefore, not be trusted with the country’s leadership.

Mvurya said that Jubilee Party has brought development including equipping of health facilities, tarmacking of Samburu-Kinango Road, constructing Shimoni Port and distribution of title deeds among other projects.

He said that the only agenda for the opposition is removing President Uhuru Kenyatta from office without stating what they intend to do for Kenyans.

“Those in opposition did not provide even title deeds even though they had the land docket then. We supported ODM but they have done nothing at all,” he said.

Mvurya said the region is currently behind Jubilee because the government is supporting development agenda in Kwale County.

The Governor took on his Mombasa counterpart, Ali Hassan Joho, saying that he has no moral authority to dictate to anyone on leadership issue since he has fallen out with his own deputy who is in Jubilee while he is still in ODM.

Speaking during the Annual Polytechnics Exhibition at Ukunda Polytechnic, Mvurya said that peace is critical ahead of the August election for economic stability of the country.

In a quick rejoinder while addressing ODM supporters at St. Joseph Hall, Msambweni MP Suleiman Dor, said that Jubilee has not brought any development as claimed by the Governor.

“Let him tell us what Jubilee has done for Kwale people. The development in Msambweni was done by me and not Jubilee. They should not lie,” he said.

Dor warned Mvurya that he should be ready to go home after August 8 this year just like he was voted in overwhelmingly while in ODM in 2013.

“The same way we made you the Governor in 2013, we will uproot you come August 8 when Kenyans go to the ballot.”

Speaker Sammy Ruwa accused Jubilee leadership of only having interest in minerals and oil deposits and land in Kwale.

“They are buying land in Kinango because there is oil, if they are not in minerals they are in beach plots,” he claimed.

He said that he is the only one capable of defeating Mvurya and Ambassador Ali Chirau Mwakwere who is in NASA.
