Governor Mwangi wa Iria’s wife conned of Sh4.5 million

Two suspects who allegedly conned Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria’s wife, Jane Waigwe, of some Sh4.8 million have been arraigned before a Murang’a Court.

The two, Lucy Wangechi Thiong’o and Joseph Kamande Ngugi, are alleged to have sold to Jane Waigwe a five-acre piece of land whose documents they acquired fraudulently.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai, the two were accused of jointly presenting a forged share certificate at the Murang’a lands office transferring land number Makuyu/Kariaini/Block III/20 from the original owner, Samuel Magaga, to themselves.

It is after this transfer that the two sold the piece of land to the governor’s wife.

The fraud was discovered when Waigwe started excavating the land to construct a dam. She realised she had been conned by the two after the original landowners filed a complaint.

Lucy has also been charged with four other counts of forging Samuel Magaga’s signature on a document, forging Utonga sub location assistant chief, Walter Okelo Odera’s document, forgery of the chief’s stamp and knowingly presenting a false document.

They denied the offences and pleaded not guilty on all counts and were released on a cash bail of Sh1.5 million and surety of the same amount.
