Governor Nanok furious over incomplete IDP houses

Turkana Governor, Josphat Nanok, has complained of incomplete houses for the Internally Displaced Persons living in seven camps distributed across the vast county.

Governor Nanok says the camps were being constructed by the national government in an effort to resettle 11,000 victims of the 2007/08 Post Election Violence.

Speaking in Lodwar Town, the governor said ten years down the line, the IDPs from Turkana have never settled in their houses simply because the houses are incomplete.

The county boss said the houses were constructed in a quick manner and most of them lack doors, roofs and windows.

Nanok called on the national government to complete the houses, construct toilets and renovate the ones that had collapsed due to poor workmanship.

A spot check by Citizen TV revealed that there are seven IDP camps in Turkana with houses that are incomplete and with no toilets.

The seven camps are Kanan, Kanamkemer, Nataparkakono,Lokori, Nakwamekwi, Lokichar and Kakuma.
