Governor Obado tells off MP Masara as rivalry escalates

Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Suna West MP Peter Masara were on Friday engaged in a squabble that is the latest in a series of verbal attacks.

During a funds drive where the Orange democratic Movement (ODM) leadership present, the two had a bitter exchange accusing each other of embezzlement of public funds.

Masara alleged that over Ksh. 8billion received by Migori County during the previous financial year is yet to be accounted for.

In his defence, Obado said Masara should stop calling him a thief ‘just because he does not agree with his (Obado’s) style of leadership.’

The two are believed to be on bad terms as this was the second public confrontation in a span of one month.

They were speaking during the function at Nyabisawa Girls’ Secondary School in Suna East Sub County where ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho also addressed residents.

Masara is on record linking the Governor to a criminal gang that terrorises residents in Migori.

He further urged voters to question their leaders about their county expenditures which are financed through public resources.

Obado insists that Masara is obsessed with him and has political scores to settle.

A month ago, there was a similar confrontation during a funds drive at Kitere Catholic Church in Rongo Sub County.
