Governor Rasanga accuses opponents of planning to disrupt primaries
Siaya Governor, Cornel Rasanga, now claims that his opponents are planning to disrupt the ODM party nominations which are slated for Monday, April 24.
The incumbent says that he has received information that the opponents are planning to start up chaos at polling centres during the nomination exercise and then lay the blame on him.
Rasanga adds that he is privy to information that his opponents have allegedly printed T-Shirts and caps bearing his name and portrait to distribute to goons who will then cause chaos.
The governor has urged his supporters not to put on his campaign T-shirts or caps on the nomination day to be able to distinguish themselves from those who are likely to be used by the opponents to create disturbance.
Rasanga, who made the remarks while addressing Jua Kali artisans in Siaya Town, said that police will be on standby to ensure peace is maintained during the party nominations.
This comes barely two days after Rasanga rubbished rigging claims made by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo saying they are far-fetched, further arguing that he has no reason to rig Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries.
He stated that he cannot be part of such a clandestine plan because he has effectively been campaigning throughout the county to marshal adequate support of the Siaya electorates.
Jakoyo had accused Rasanga of having connived with nominated MP Dr. Oburu Odinga to influence the members of the selection of elections panels that will preside over the ODM nominations across the entire county.
The Gem MP had recently claimed that the members of the constituency elections panel in the six constituencies within the county are likely to be biased because they were chosen by Rasanga and Dr. Oburu.
“These people are biased! They have been chosen by Oburu and Rasanga, so they are allied to Rasanga,” Jakoyo claimed while addressing crowds at Dr. Oburu’s campaign kickoff.
