Governor Rasanga under pressure to sign Bill on disability into law

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has been urged to sign the County Disability Bill 2014 into law in a bid to enhance the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in the region.

According to Siaya County Assembly representative for persons with disabilities, Ms Margaret Adhiambo Okech, the governor should move with speed and assent to the Bill to enable PWDs from the county to start benefitting.

Okech further laments that persons with disabilities have for a long time had trouble getting assistance from the county government, including access to funds for entrepreneurial projects or for conducting other social activities such as sports, something she termed as unfortunate.

Okech, however, says that this will all come to an end once the Disability Bill has become an Act.

The County Assembly representative, who made the remarks at Siaya County stadium, disclosed that contrary to the previous years when person with disabilities were being locked up and denied opportunities to express themselves, Siaya County administration has been able to give them a listening ear.

Ms Okech took the opportunity to announce her ambition for Siaya County Senatorial seat all the while exuding confidence that she would win.
