Governor Rasanga vows to sue Jakoyo, Gumbo over graft accusations

Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga has threatened to sue MPs who have claimed that he has been embezzling county funds.

Speaking in Rarieda Sub-County while campaigning for his re election, the governor maintained that he is innocent and dared Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, who is also the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee chairman, to probe him and order his arrest if he has evidence, adding that the statements are tainting his image to the electorate.

“Gumbo has the chance to take me to court if he feels I have embezzled funds. I’m so shocked that he prefers discussing me with the electorates during his campaigns all over the county,” claimed the agitated governor.

The governor argued that he has a legacy to keep by protecting his name and image and will not allow other leaders to use it in vain.

Rasanga said that he has already spoken with his lawyer, noting that the MPs who have been at the forefront accusing him of corruption should be ready to battle it out with him in court.

He said he has done the best for the people who elected him by initiating and implementing projects that are currently benefiting the community, adding that he has confidence that Siaya residents will reelect him.

Last week MPs Gumbo and Jakoyo Midiwo called on the EACC to conduct a lifestyle audit on the governor claiming that he had used county funds to enrich himself at the expense of the electorate.

The MPs claimed the governor had constructed palatial homes in Kisumu, Siaya and even in the United States of America using taxpayers’ money.

But the governor has since denied their claims stating that he had a better lifestyle even before he won the gubernatorial seat.

Gumbo, on the other hand, while campaigning in Siaya town promised the Siaya County residents to subject himself to an annual lifestyle audit should he be elected as governor in the next General Election.

He said he has always been against leaders who steal from public coffers to make themselves rich at the expense of development that could help Wananchi.
