Governor Ruto calls for unity in Narok

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has called for unity in Narok county in a bid to push development projects forward.

Speaking yesterday at Tagitech Village during the burial of musician Samwel Kipkemoi Sang, famously known as Junior Kotestes, Ruto said it is paramout for leaders to work together for the good of wananchi.

Mr Ruto also brought together Narok County Governor Samwel Kuntai and his Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno as a gesture of unity after the people in attendance demanded that the two politicians shake hands as a sign of commitment to working together.

Mr Ngeno, together with Senator Stephen Ole Ntutu and other MPs, has been calling for the ejection of Narok Governor Samwel Kuntai over allegations of misappropriating county funds.

UNDERMINING ARTISTS

Leaders also blamed the Music Copyright Society of Kenya for undermining artists, calling for transparency in the handling and distribution of royalties.

Sang, who was until his death the Kalenjin Musician Association chairman, passed away last week after a short illness at Tenwek Mission Hospital where he was receiving treatment for pneumonia.

Others in attendance were President Kenyatta’s political advisor Joshua Kituny, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, sevaral MPs and a number of artists.

The 37-year-old musician has done more than 16 albums and 60 hit songs that topped chats in Rift Valley, putting Kalenjin music on the Kenyan map.

In 2014, Junior Kotestes was crowned the MCSK top earner of the year. He leaves behind two widows and nine children.
