Governor Sonko thinking of quitting, says job not easy

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko might just be thinking of resigning from office, if his most recent utterance on social media is anything to go by.

In a post on his Facebook page, the flamboyant politician admitted that the magnitude of the work at the country’s Capital has proved to be hard and is weighing him down.

Mr. Sonko said he will seek the advice of Nairobians so that his decision to quit does not mirror that of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe who resigned without consulting.

“Lakini pia mujue hii kazi imekua ngumu iko karibu kunishinda na sio mambo ya flag hizo nimekubali kutoa as adviced by Karanja Kibicho na Ndegwa but nitawambia very soon ni kwanini ndio muniadvice iskue kama yule my bro aliehepa bila kuconsult.Kuweni na siku njema yenye mafanikio na baraka tele na Mungu awalinde nyote,” he wrote.

Sonko’s rants come barely a day after a section of social media users took to Twitter under the hashtag #FailedGovernorSonko to express their displeasure at his running of the city thus far.

Among the issues Twitter users accused Sonko of failing to attend to, included; water shortage, rising number of hawkers in the city as well as increased insecurity.

In the same social media post, the county boss also commended Nairobi taxpayers for passing and abiding by the Ksh.100 million daily revenue collection.

He further revealed that the revenue for the month of March, as of Wednesday 28 had hit Ksh.1,2 billion while that of February was Ksh.1.4 billion.
