Sonko to petition Senate over security withdrawal

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is set to petition the Senate in a bid to get “justice” over what he terms as intimidation by some senior government officers.

Addressing the press on Thursday at his rural home in Mua Hills, Machakos, Sonko said it was wrong for the law to be applied selectively, adding that he was ready to face his detractors head on.

“My life has been threatened and, when I reported, my security was withdrawn. I will petition the Senate and the National Assembly because I want justice. The law should not be applied selectively in Kenya,” he said.

The Governor defended his decision to relocate his operations from city hall to his home in Machakos county, citing security concerns.

He accuses top government officers operating from Harambee House of undermining him, and stalling operations at city hall, to drive a narrative that he did not have the capacity to manage a complex and critical county like Nairobi.

Sonko, however, says he will continue working for the people of Nairobi while sorting out his personal issues.

He has assured Nairobians that he is up to task, saying, “my government is on the ground and I have a permanent solution on the garbage, roads among other issues that have remained unsolved for over 15 years.”

“People of Nairobi want services and I will deliver beside all these threats,” he added.
