Governor to blame for water shortage Kisii residents

Residents of Kisii County have accused Governor James Ongwae of contracting unqualified service providers who have interfered with the county’s water resources leading to shortage of the precious commodity.

In a spot check, Egesa FM, found long ques in the few remaining water reservoirs and springs in the county as the majority of the water resources had dried up.

The spot check revealed that among the water reservoirs that have since dried up include the Nyanchwa, Riokindo, and Nyabururu water springs in Nyaribari Chache.

The residents have accused the governor of colluding with ‘fake’ contractors to embezzle funds meant to preserve the water catchment areas hence worsening the conditions of water supply in the county.

“We are shocked on how the county government of Kisii runs its projects. First, the issue of water in Kisii County has become a major problem, money to repair the springs was paid out to some contractors and no work has been done,” lamented Thomson Osoro, the Chairman Rigena Human Rights Organization.

Osoro said although there was drought countrywide, mismanagement of funds was a major cause of the current shortage.
