Governor Wa Iria, MP Kamau supporters in court over violence

Four supporters of Murang’a County Governor, Mwangi Wa Iria and Kigumo Member of Parliament, Jamleck Kamau, were on Monday arraigned before Murang’a Magistrate Court to answer to charges of incitement to violence.

The four were accused of planning and causing violence between the supporters of the two candidates who are likely to face off in the 2017 gubernatorial contest.

The suspects denied the charges before Principal Magistrate, Anthony Mwicigi, and were set free on a Ksh 20,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 10,000.

The case was set for hearing on January 26, 2017. However, one of the suspects, HarunPesaShayo, was charged with an additional account of being in possession of a machete, thereby, putting at risk lives of ordinary citizens.

His case will be heard on December 20, 2016.

The Kigumo legislator intended to use the stadium to unveil his vision for the county when Wa Iria’s supporters, allegedly masquerading as county workers, invaded the stadium pretending to conduct structural works.

It took the intervention of the police to quell the situation.

Supporters of the two leaders have engaged in ugly scenarios at different locations cross the county in their effort to drum up support for their masters.
