Governor Waititu puts ‘bhang smoking’ chief on notice

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has issued a stern warning to an area Chief who is accused of smoking bhang and at the same time shielding drug peddlers in the county.

Speaking at the funeral of the father of a bodyguard attached to the Kiambu deputy governor was shot dead by unknown thugs, Governor Waititu said security would be tightened, warning that rogue administrators would not be spared.

“We are working with all security agencies in the county to ensure we deal firmly with these criminal gangs that are killing people,” said Waititu.

He added: “I want to warn those chiefs being mentioned in the bhang business. We will not spare them because of their positions. We will have them arrested and charged.

In an apparent address to the Muguga Chief, Waititu said: “I would not wish for anyone to lose their job, but Chief, if you will continue being mentioned in this drug business. You will go… It is very wrong for anyone in the public service to engage in illegal activities.”

A bodyguard attached to Kiambu Deputy Governor James Karanja Nyoro was on Saturday (January 13) shot and injured in a shootout that left the security officer’s father dead.

John Mungai Mburu, who is a General Service Unit (GSU) officer, was accosted by two armed robbers who wanted to rob him of his gun at the gate of his home at Muguga village in Kabete.
