Governor Wambora says ready to address macadamia wars

Embu Governor, Martin Wambora, has refuted claims that he was behind the arrest of a Chinese investor who was buying macadamia nuts at a higher price of Ksh 120 per kilogram in the region.

Speaking at Mutunduri after macadamia farmers held a demonstration castigating the arrest of a Chinese investor whom they said that he was buying their nuts at a higher price than the local investors, the Governor said that he was not supporting any company.

“I will stand with my people 100%, those who gives you a top price, if the Chinese gives you Ksh 110, I will licence him next week, if the local gives you Ksh 100, I will licence it next week,” stated the Governor.

The governor assured the residents that the County Government of Embu had agreed with the Agricultural Food Authority (AFA) that the licensing of the macadamia buyers be done by the County government.

The governor continued to state that he had summoned his executive members to draft a guideline policy that will be used as the principal for issuance of temporary license to investors.

“I have called my cabinet immediately to create what we call temporary licence for the office of the county government and will only be licencing people who are fair with my people.”
