Governors are milking the taxpayer dry with their greed Kindiki

Tharaka Nithi Senator and Senate Majority Leader, Prof Kithure Kindiki, has hit out at the governors for self-aggrandizement and massive misappropriation of public funds.

Kindiki said that the county chiefs live lavishly and enjoy long motorcades at the expense of poor citizens.

“ You see a very junior person like me with a motorcade of 100 government vehicles, mounted with sirens, all fueled with government money,” noted Kindiki.

He sought to remind the governors that sirens are an exclusive privilege of police vehicles and ambulances that respond to public emergencies.

“This kind of seniority and show-off at the expense of the taxpayers in a developing country is criminal, this cannot be entertained.”

Kindiki termed devolution as a blessing to the country that was intended to accelerate the economic development of the nation.

“We have a great country especially now with devolution where some resources are in Nairobi but another set is in the counties. This country in ten years can achieve what it would have achieved in 50 or 60 years, the problem is corruption and wastage,” he added.

The Senate Majority Leader faulted the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders for allegedly exhibiting bias in the fight against corruption.

Kindiki said that CORD leaders are quick to point out at corruption in the government and casting a blind eye at the same within their own ranks.

“Our colleagues in the opposition, their main job is telling us that we in Jubilee are corrupt but when it comes to some of their own being accused of corruption, they don’t want to talk about it and they start defending those thieves.”

He further defended President Uhuru Kenyatta on allegations of inability to curb corruption in the government and instead apportioned blame to national and county government officials engaging in graft.

Kindiki called on every Kenyan to rally behind the President to banish corruption out of Kenya saying that the vice is threatening to throw the country into tatters.

“Corruption ladies and gentlemen is almost making our country a laughing stalk.”
