Governors Kingi, Dado meet over swelling border tension

Kilifi Governor Amazon Kingi and his Tana River counterpart Hussein Dado were on Monday held a series of security meetings along the border of Tana River and Kilifi counties following simmering tension between pastoralists and farmers.

The two Governors held a series of meetings within the hotspot centers at Adu, Chakama, Hawe Wanje and Timboni areas where attacks have been reported following the influx of livestock from Tana River.

Speaking at Timboni area, the two Governors said that a dispute resolution committee will be set up to bring the communities together.

Tana River Governor Hussein Dado says there is an urgent need to solve the stalemate and enable the communities resume their normal activities.

Dado called communities living along the volatile area to respect one another as he promised to hold more meetings that will bring a lasting peaceful solution along the border points sentiments echoed by Kilifi Governor Amazon Kingi who called on the community to co-exist and respect for one another in regard to their economic activities.

“We didn’t come to destroy but to bring peace what will happen if we decide to be ruled by boundaries? We must find a lasting solution,” he noted.

Communities living along the border of the two counties have been conflicting over grazing fields and control of communal land.
